I just did a test on a drawing from scratch and the room tag worked perfect.
It is a very hard program to learn imo.

In his opinion you should use autocad to draw the conceptual plan and only switch to revit when you are ready for construction documents.
You are now in draw mode using the draw tools in the ribbon bar you can draw the outline of the floor.
Click the floor button.
To place a floor.
Add in columns and structural walls.
This is useful for a repeating floor plan or if you d like to copy elements from one level to another as a starting point for a floor plan.
Introduce your second floor slab with cantilevers.
Construct your ground level walls.

Introduce the stair case and feature curtain walls.
Use this technique create identical elements on multiple floors levels.
On the first floor everything went okay as far as putting in walls but then when i go to the second floor i lose the wall patterns for some reason.
Place your building pads to setup the ground slabs.
To sketch the profile of the floor click modify create floor boundary tab draw panel and select a sketching tool.

Recently a friend was trying to convince me that revit was a terrible tool to quickly draw a floor plan.
I use a small 1 thick wide wall to go around the perimeter to fill in the gap between the top plate and second floor levels.
When we place a floor in revit we draw the outline and let revit fill it with the selected floor type.
