How to dry or remove oil from a rug.
The motor oil stain should no longer be visible.
Blot or gently stroke the carpet pile.
Let the glycerin or oil sit on the stain for 30 60 minutes then skip to step 9.
Let it sit for 15 minutes then use a vacuum to remove the baking soda or corn starch.
If the oil stain is still visible mix two cups of warm water with one tablespoon of white vinegar and one tablespoon of liquid hand dishwashing detergent.
Apply detergent water to the stained area without soaking the carpet and let it stand for 5 minutes.
Next rub in a few drops of dish soap then pour warm water over the stained area.
Once clean rinse the rug quickly trying not to soak it.
An alternative to using glycerin is simply to use a drop or two of cooking oil.
Vacuum or blot up the excess.
If you used water to clean the rug use a fan or hair dryer on low to quickly dry the area.
Mix 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap 1 tablespoon of white distilled vinegar and 2 cups of warm water in a bowl.
Be gentle with the brush so as not to damage the delicate weaving.
Use the sudsy water and a soft bristled brush.
Use a spool to gently scrape and scoop up the excess starting on the edge and working towards the center.
Apply this solution onto a sponge and work the solution into any remaining oil stain residue.
Dab the stain until it s gone or until the oil no longer transfers to the cloth.
Rinse the area with cold water and let dry.
