I just purchased an indoor outdoor 8 x 10 rug for my gazebo.
How to dye throw rugs.
As you can see the furniture is more of a blue grey while the rug is kind of a blue green.
I don t want to paint it and loose the pattern.
I had a packet of rit dye that i bought years ago but never used in a blue jean color but added another packet to make the color deeper.
Spray the carpet until you have the preferred color.
Is it possible to dye it.
Make the dye according to the bottle and pour it into spray bottles.
Fill a large sink with hot water so that your area rug can float freely in the water with plenty of room to spare.
Then i sprayed the dye all over the rug until the color was fairly even.
The wool rug was so thick and densely woven that the dye wasn t soaking all the way through so eventually we started stomping the dye into it with our feet like we were doing grape stomping.
6 rinse the excess dye from the rug with cold water until the water runs clear.
We let the dye sit on the rug for an hour and then rinsed it off with the hose as well as we could.
Finally we left it in the sun to dry before bringing it inside.
Then i was ready to dye my rug.
I boiled some water and poured it into the bottle that i planned to use to spray the dye using a funnel to avoid any spillage.
Press the rug with a hot steam iron to set the dye in the fibers.
I put on the spray attachment and then gave the bottle a good shake to mix the liquid thoroughly before use.
Then i sprayed the dye all over the rug until the color was fairly even.
After that i poured the dye into the same bottle in the same way.
I took the rug outside laid it on an old shower curtain dissolved the dye and put it into an empty windex container.
I love the rug but it is the wrong shade of blue for my furniture.
I took the rug outside laid it on an old shower curtain dissolved the dye and put it into an empty windex container.
If you are using a powder dye predissolve the dye in 2 cups of boiling water.
Our toenails are still blue.
Launder in cold or hot water as directed by the.
Use a hose until the water that drains off the carpet is completely clear.
Just prior to dyeing add several large potfuls of boiling water which will give your rug a much better color result.
