Mark the expansion gap use your chalk snapline to make a line 1 4 inch out from the starting wall.
How to find a straight line on the floor.
To find the center of a triangular floor treat the longest wall as the base of the triangle.
Just find the straightest wall and measure off of it in a few different places and snap a chalk line between points.
Let it swing free till it stops moving.
If the wall is too long to snap the chalk easily kneel by the midpoint of the line and press it down to the floor with one hand.
Reach out with your other hand and lift up the chalk line about 10 to 12 inches from the floor pulling straight up then release the line so it snaps down onto the floor creating a crisp straight line.
Now snap a chalkline across the room.
Secure the hook end.
The solution is to angle cut the lengths of the first and last courses for your laminate floor layout pattern so the floor is straight even if the walls aren t.
To ensure it stays tight you will need something to either hold the hook end on your mark use the claw on the hook itself to pull against or hook the actual hook over something.
Hang a chalked line from it and tie a small weight on the bottom.
Reel out the string and pull it taut.
In l shaped rooms use the larger part of the l as your primary rectangle.
Then lift the string straight up and let it go.
The snap line is extra bold.
If a wall has a concave curve with respect to the rest of the room snap a straight line between the ends of the curved wall and use that line to find the center of the floor.
Pull the line very taut and the hold the line down on the mark with one hand.
Now square off that line and snap the 90 degree.
Measure and mark your starting point add a nail or screw to ensure that your line is totally straight the chalk line itself needs to be pulled tight.
Snap the chalk line leaving a straight chalk mark on the subfloor.
Carefully grab the line at the bottom with one hand and hold it snug against the wall at.
