A secure method of attaching railing posts to a deck is to notch the post at the bottom so it fit snugly in the space between the two outer floor joists.
How to install deck stair railing posts.
The design i worked up for this small deck uses 1 western red cedar for the 4 4 posts and 2 western red cedar for the 2 4 horizontal rails and the 5 4 decking for the cap rail and balusters.
Use your post level to check that the spindle is straight.
If you want to cover the face of the framing with fascia install the fascia first.
Place one spindle on each of your marks at the center point.
Drill two holes into the outside framing where the bolts will go.
At first you should use the electric screwdriver at low speeds and as the screw enters in the wood you have to increase the speed.
Cut the notch make a crosscut where the notch ends.
Once all the railing posts are installed you are ready to lay the decking.
Install one deck screw in the uppermost hole using your screw gun.
Use a joist scrap to be exact add the thickness of the decking and mark for the crosscut.

Clamp the post to the inside of the frame so that it stays in place.
Install the 2x4 or 2x6 rail cap over the top rail.
For maximum stability make sure the bolt holes are in the center of the post 1 5 to 2 inches from the top and bottom of the frame.

Building deck stair balusters install the first deck stair railing using an electric screwdriver and 3 wood screws.
Then drill holes and drive the railing post bolts.
After the decking is finished it will be time to install the top and bottom rails balusters top cap and any other parts.
Fasten the spindle in position using your screw gun and deck screws.
Secure the top cap through the bottom of the 2x4 or 2x6 into the side of the bottom stair rail post.
