Be sure that the holes are a bit smaller than the screws that came with the hinge.
Loosen the top hinge on the gate and slide it down.
Drive in the screws using your screwdriver.

Get the strap hinges again and put them on the gate aligning them with the screw holes.
Fill the hole to about 5 inches or 12 7 centimeters from the top with more of the dry mix adding another 5 inches or 12 7 centimeters of water until the hole is filled.
Mark the hinge location with a grease pencil.
Depending on the type of hinge you choose you can install it on the exterior of the fence or the interior of the gate.
The more wood it grabs the stronger it will make the gate.
Make sure that the hinges are fastened and secure.
Step 11 mark location of remaining 3 screws on side of fence post.
Supporting the gate assembly attach the hinges to the hinge panel and hand tighten the fixings.
Setting up a pair of gates within your opening prior to hanging 3 once the gate is wedged or packed in place check the top of the gate for level and double check that the gate stile is plumb vertical upright of the gate frame.
Position the top gate hinge immediately below the top hinge bolt.
