How to clean ceramic planters.
Use one part unscented household bleach and nine parts water filling a container large enough to hold all the pots.
Wash the pots as you would wash your dishes with a scrubby brush to thoroughly remove all the debris and staining.
You may need to use some steel wool on stubborn stains and discoloration.
Don t neglect to clean the outside or any trays troughs or saucers the planter sits in.
Once empty give the planter a good scrub using a fairly stiff brush warm water and liquid detergent.
Wood and metal planters are more susceptible to rot or rust which can also damage your plants.
Scrub with a soft cloth or a toothbrush thoroughly.
Rinse your planter under running water if it is made from plastic to remove the bleach.
To clean your pots follow these steps.
Cleanse the pot with cool water and a mild environmentally friendly dish cleanser.
This will kill off any disease organisms that might be lingering on the surface.
Once the pots are clean make up a large container filled with a 10 percent bleach solution.
Preparing to clean the containers.
Rinse the pot with cool water.
Fill a sink or large container with warm water and dish soap and add one cup of vinegar.
Soak the vase for at least 24 hours in hot water and ammonia mixture.
Cool water will help prepare the surface for cleansing.
Otherwise soak the planter in clean water for at least 3 hours.
Cleaning plant containers properly be they ceramic terracotta or plastic will greatly benefit any plant you grow in them and ensure strong healthy plants.
7 treat your wooden and ceramic planters with waterproofing agents that are non toxic.
Some people have reported additional success by adding spic and span to the ammonia water mixture.
Submerge the pots and let them soak for 10 minutes.
Next use a mixture of mild dish soap and water with your stiff brush and scrub the stains.

After emptying your ceramic flower pot of plants and soil use a stiff brush or dish scrubber to brush off and remove any loose dirt or mineral buildup on your pot.
