I have a natural sheepskin rug that was supposed to be creamy white but the seller sent me a more champagne yellow shade and i can t return it and it clashes with the rest of my furnishings.
How to dye a sheepskin rug.
If color is too dark add more water.

Rinse sheepskin under running water until fully saturated.
Add 1 teaspoon of dish detergent to help promote level dyeing.
Remove the sheepskin from the water and lightly wring it out to get rid of excess water.
Let it soak for two hours turning the sheepskin over halfway through soaking.
Gently squeeze don t wring to remove excess water.
Can i bleach it white.
Wearing rubber gloves and following manufacturer s instructions prepare dye bath in bucket.
For the aquamarine rug add 1 2 cup of dye to the dyebath.
Mix frequently with gloved hands for 1 hour to ensure dye penetrates all fibres.
Lay the sheepskin in a shady spot and allow to dry.
Once the sheepskin has completely dried take an old hairbrush and brush out the wool to fluff it up.
Put your sheep skin item into the bucket.
Use your stirring device to completely dissolve the dye in the water and submerge your sheepskin back in the basin.
Dilute liquid dyes by stirring each bottle into 2 qt.
Pour the dye solution over the rug.
Rinse the item off with warm water.
Soak the sheepskin in the basin for at least one hour.
Do not place in direct sunlight and this may cause the dye to fade and the skin to harden.
Pre dissolve powdered dye by mixing each packet with 2 cups of boiling water.
Faux sheepskin that is not 100 wool will take significantly less time to dye.
Is there a dye out there to make a rug white.
Test color by dipping a paper towel into the dyebath.
This will lower the ph of the solution making the dye more effective.
Avoid hanging in the direct sunlight to prevent fading.
Immerse rug in dyebath.
If color is too light add more dye.
Keep the item in the dye for approximately 30 minutes to ensure that the sheepskin is saturated.
Gently squeeze the excess water from the sheepskin and hang to dry.
Fill the basin with enough lukewarm water to cover the sheepskin.
Add 2 cups of distilled white vinegar to the water for each pound of sheepskin.
Rinse sheepskin until water runs clear.
To achieve my blue green color i used 5 capfuls of liquid dye mixed with 1 cup of salt and let soak overnight apx 8 hours.
Immerse sheepskin in dye bath.
