Insert the smartkey tool fully and firmly into the smartkey hole.

Ensure your door cannot close on its own or that you have another way to enter you home.
Step 4 reverse the sides that the levers are on by sliding the second door lever removed back into the door knob opening and then insert the first lever into the door knob opening.
Remove the handle from the outer side of the door and set it aside.

Once triggered the lever or lock trim can be removed from the door.
This needs to be done all at the same.
Remove the faceplate by grasping and pulling outward.
While pushing the metal tab that is in the hole push the lever up off of it s shaft.
Remove the smarkey tool.
Use a screwdriver to remove the set screws which will release the lock and lever from the opening.
Pull the second lever out of the door knob opening.
Rotate the key 90 degrees clockwise.
Remove the current key.
Straighten a paper clip and insert it into the hole.
Remove the faceplate screws by turning counterclockwise with a screwdriver or hex wrench.
Insert the key that currently operates your lock.
Older locks that have these depressions must be removed in two separate steps.
Spray a little 3 n 1 oil or wd 40 into the hole and wait about ten mins.
If you have a kwikset entry lock with a lever and the exterior lever comes off and you think the cause is a missing a set screw it almost certainly is not a missing set screw the set screw is in fact still there but screwed in enough into the interior of the post that it looks like it s missing and no longer able to secure the lever.
Examine the lever and look for slots or depressions.
Turn the wrench to remove the fastener then pull the lever away from the door by hand.
If any screws are exposed during this process remove them to release the lock and remove it from the door.
Apply a bit of pressure to the paper clip to trigger a release button inside the hardware.
