Usually clear or white ligatures are used with ceramic braces for a more discrete look but these elastics are highly susceptible to color degradation.
How to clean ceramic braces.
In this week 2 update we cover how we tackle staining in clear ceramic braces.
Ask your orthodontist about using prophy jet an air polishing device that sprays a baking soda paste on the ceramic bracket and bonding glue to gently grind off discolorations.
Brush your teeth after you drink liquids that can stain your ceramic braces such as tea coffee wine and soda.
To clean them brush your teeth with an electric toothbrush and flouride toothpaste.
The orthodontist bonds a clear ceramic bracket to the tooth surface and attaches ligatures tiny rubber bands to thin metal archwires to realign the teeth.
Mustard is also a no no as the yellow instantly stains the brackets.
Using an electric toothbrush is also a good way to help prevent staining.
You should brush your teeth making sure to brush each individual clear bracket after every meal and after you drink beverages other than water.
Unfortunately people learn which foods they have to stay away from the hard way.
Use an electric toothbrush and let it rest on each tooth and bracket for three to five seconds when brushing.
Some ways to clean them may be with water flossers and baking soda in toothpa.
The red color is very strong for the ceramic brackets.
Ceramic braces are far less visible than full metal.
Foods with tomatoes and tomato paste should be kept away from people with ceramic braces.
There is the option to get self ligating ceramic braces though so if you have gotten your braces on yet ask your orthodontist about it.
