Rub the dark spot with a piece of 000 steel wool alternatively resprinkling the spot with mineral spirits and rubbing with the steel wool until the polyurethane finish is removed. Wipe away mold and mildew spots using a solution of one quarter cup of bleach mixed with one cup of water. Soak cloth in some hydrogen peroxide and dab onto all of the dark spots. Allow the area to dry.

Hydrogen peroxide may bleach the section of your floor. The most common cause of cloudy hardwood floors is using the wrong cleaner. For larger darker stains you can leave a hydrogen peroxide soaked towel over the area for a few hours and then remove and let dry. Try to remove the grime and dirt from the floor.

Allow 24 hours for the bleach to evaporate and the floor to dry. Remove the existing finish. If it does not you may then cover the stain with a dry cloth and rub the cloth with a steamless hot iron pressed against the floor. If you don t remove the dirt you risk scratching the surface of the wood thus ruining its surface even more.

If this doesn t work the spots are probably water or urine damage. Hydrogen peroxide is suitable for removing dark stains and lingering smells on hardwood floors. If it s still darker than the rest of the floor apply a second coat. Repeat for longer hours if the stain is resistant.

Wearing eye protection use the brush to apply a very thin coat of wood bleach to the stain. Add two to three drops of a tetrachloride containing dry cleaning spot remover to black spots. You don t need any chemicals or cleaning solutions for this part. Wipe the spot remover off the hardwood floors with a damp cloth.

Let dry overnight and be amazed. To do that first vacuum your hardwood floors and then take a damp not wet cloth and rub it over the surface.
